Jobsearch day...

There are two assisstant managers at the charity shop. I think I've mentioned that before. One of them has been malingering pretty much since I arrived. They've now advertised for a temporary replacement. It pays more than the existing manager gets, I notice. Also more than the advert in the window of the shop says, by no less than 17p per hour.

Back to A4E, it was a typical day. Read the papers. Killed time. Not many more weeks before it's all over. Only a 13 week course, after all. Week after next there's some techcert thing to keep me busy, so that's one less jobsearch day to worry about.

More horror stories about Ambitions, the world's most hated personnel agency, too. A story I heard: someone there had been working as a farm labourer while on the dole and had ended up fleeing across the fields when some Scot woman from the dole fraud office came looking for "benefit cheats".

47% of those who leave A4E, or who left in May, end up in work, according to one of their posters. Mind you, I've been there months now and haven't seen anyone get an actual job. I've seen three get temp jobs, none for more than three months, one of them has already been sacked.

Also heard today, one m'fellow incarceratees worked for a time in an abattoir. He was appaled by the waste of the horns and so on. Apprently they're cleaner than hospitals, where a surprising number has spent a lot of time. None of them had anything good to say about nurses.

The rest is blank
And that's the worst
An empty head
For an empty purse
You had a laugh
Or so you think
But in the morning
You just stink
-- "Just the One", the Levellers

Sounds a bit like rap, but with decent music, does that.
